Barbell Supports for Hip Thrust
The Barbell Supports are an essential set of of two lateral bars that can significantly increase the functionality of the Hip Thrust Platform Bench (code 9122). For this reason, they are highly recommended, despite adopting them may seem unusual compared to the widespread (but still unconfortable) habit of starting the exercise with the barbell resting on the legs.
The Barbell Supports are 93 cm long, 36.5 cm high, made in painted steel, and finished with sturdy nylon edging with four slits that prevent the barbell from sliding out unobstructedly. These features allow to steadily position the barbell and to safely slide it along the supports. Also the loading process of the barbell is facilitated, as the plates can be easily inserted on the loadable sleeves of the barbell (which does not touch the ground).
Other advantages include an easier to perform beginning of the Hip Thrust movement, as it starts from a non-disadvantageous position, and, most importantly, a more comfortable entry and exit of the user, as you only need to horizontally slide the barbell on the supports to easily enter or leave the Hip Thrust Platform Bench.
From a technical point of view, the Barbell Supports are also helpful for the correct execution of the movement. The Hip Thrust exercise should involve a very limited ROM (range of motion) to isolate the hip movement, avoiding to excessively go down (that would involve ankle and legs) or up with the hips (that would involve the back). The presence of the Barbell Supports indeed prevents the first of these two errors (excessive lowering) and, consequently, it also avoids the second (extreme uplift), which is often a result of the high inertia due to the excessive width of the movement.
