The 9012/4 Open Hex Bar is part of the evolutionary path developed by Sidea in the specialized hex bar segment, incorporating several design aspects already introduced with the 9012/3 Low Hex Bar. While the latter was created with a greater focus on athletic preparation and specific technical applications, the new 9012/4 Open Hex Bar has been developed for a broader and more versatile use, with particular attention to compactness, practicality, and operational versatility.
The goal of the 9012/4 is to transfer the typical advantages of hex bars into a configuration that is effective in commercial gyms, personal training studios, and home settings. It is in the latter context that the bar finds a particularly interesting place, as it provides an extremely compact training station, primarily suitable for lower body work, but not limited to it, while maintaining ease of use, quick setup, and functionality.
More generally, hex bars are widely used in physical preparation because, compared to traditional barbells, they offer more straightforward use and do not necessarily require dedicated stands or racks, with clear advantages in terms of practicality and safety. The presence of handles, the more central load placement relative to the body’s axis, and greater freedom of movement contribute to a simpler and more accessible execution mechanic. This aspect is particularly useful not only in performance settings but also with beginners, work groups, individuals with motor limitations, or in functional recovery paths, facilitating the execution of exercises such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, and their variations.
Based on these principles, Sidea first developed the 9012/3 Low Hex Bar and subsequently the 9012/4 Open Hex Bar, two unique quadra bars designed to expand the application possibilities of the traditional hexagonal barbell. The open configuration allows for greater freedom of movement on different planes of work, promoting deep squats, lunges, and other complex movements. Another relevant aspect is the proprioceptive engagement required by using an open trap bar in highly dynamic exercises, with significant involvement of the neuromuscular system in perceiving and controlling the body’s position in space, leading to positive effects on balance, joint stability, and motor coordination. High proprioceptive activation is an important element in both static training and dynamic, high-intensity movements, helping to improve the quality of motor control.
From a practical standpoint, the 9012/4 Open Hex Bar can be rested vertically on its supports, making it easier and quicker to load and unload plates – including Ø 45 cm bumper plates.
Another distinctive feature is the presence of two different grips, which allow the bar to be oriented to achieve two different handle heights. This translates into two different squat depths and, more generally, the ability to modify the relationship between ROM, initial posture, and load management. SUPER HEX BAR – Code 9012/1
The 9012/4 Open Hex Bar has also been designed to be balanced, so it tends to remain in a horizontal position during setup. This aspect improves the perceived comfort in the exercise preparation phase, makes the initial grip more immediate, and contributes to a general feeling of greater control over the equipment.
The 9012/3 Low Hex Bar is made with a 50 mm diameter tube and is entirely finished with a durable dark gray mica paint. The plate sleeves have a diameter of 50 mm and a length of 300 mm, offering ample loading capacity and the ability to use any type of plate with a 50 mm hole.
Dimensions:
Overall length 1862 mm
Adapter length 400 mm
Adapter diameter Ø 50 mm
Handle diameter Ø 29 mm
Maximum load 600 kg
Weight 22 kg
