EVAGYM – Technical flooring in EVA (thickness 1 cm)
The EvaGym flooring is a new product developed in 2021 from the successful EVA tatami and the need for a highly shock-absorbent but more practical technical flooring than the EcoGym, which is made of recycled rubber granules.
The differences between EvaGym and EcoGym
EcoGym, available in two different versions (1 cm thick code 9201 and 2 cm thick code 9202), is an extremely specific product, suitable for Crossfit ® and functional training activities which are characterized by the dropping of heavy tools, and the possible presence of sweat on the ground. The agglomerate of rubber granules is the best solution for contexts of this type. On the other hand, a granular flooring of recycled rubber is harder to clean, heavy to remove and replace, and not totally odourless.
EVA is a closed-cell polymer, easy to clean, light, with excellent absorption qualities and an excellent degree of lift and stability. For areas dedicated to training, especially if training on the ground, where there is no systematic falling of tools, but which are instead accompanied to the ground, EvaGym then is the right product for use.
The joints are precise, do not generate leaks and are designed in such a way as to make installation quick and practical, which is very useful in cases where the multi-functionality of the rooms requires frequent changing of the tiles. The weight of 2 kg per tile further facilitates moving operations.
The material: EVA
The EVA used is the same as the tatami tiles but EvaGym, has a greater density and hardness, so much so that the 10 mm thick tile weighs 2 kg, like 20 mm thick tatami tiles. On a practical level, this results in greater stability and a lower “gelatin” effect, notwithstanding the high absorption qualities. The tatami is a softer and more rubbery flooring, designed for martial arts, EvaGym is a soft flooring but designed for general training, even with weights, and therefore more compact and stable.
Other characteristics.
- As for tatami tiles, EvaGym tiles are produced by moulding. During production, a silicone-based protective is used which makes the new tile slightly slippery. Cleaning with a degreaser eliminates this initial slipperiness.
- EVA is a closed-cell, elastic, dense, medium-soft polymer with low load resistance. For example, by supporting a weight it can get bruised and if the support is prolonged over time, the dent can become permanent.
The floor is not suitable for the reckless use of heavy and angular tools, such as clubs and hammers; objects that can mark and engrave the surface of the tiles.
It is not suitable as a surface on which to place isotonic machines or cardio machines.
It’s not suitable as a floor finishing where heavy machinery, cardio machineri, isotonic machines, racks are going to be placed.
EvaGym does not respond well to wheels on top of it, so do not use tools, benches and racks with wheels: they can damage the EvaGym.
EvaGym must not be blocked by walls or heavy furniture, but should be left free to expand. In the presence of significant temperature variations (e.g., direct exposure to sunlight in certain areas), the material may expand.
By definition and its intrinsic specs, all tatami must be used barefoot, or with footwear without soles, sharp parts and/or abrasive parts.
Complies with Regulation 1907/2006 REACH. Exercise equipment that can also be used by children under 14 years of age. Reg. 1907/2006 REACH concerns the evaluation of chemicals; it aims to ensure the highest level of protection of human health and the environment.
EVA Tatami – Quality, Safety, and User Perception of Sidea Tiles
The tatami may not be perfectly identical if the tiles are purchased at different times.
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) tiles, like all foam materials, may exhibit variations in color, density, or surface texture between different production batches. These differences are completely normal and result from the production tolerances typical of soft materials and from processing conditions.
Furthermore, during use, EVA tends to change slightly under compression and friction, progressively adapting to the underlying surface, the activity performed, and the environment. It is therefore natural for a user, accustomed to their own tatami over time, to perceive a different degree of softness, friction, or elastic response when new tiles arrive.
Sidea is a leader in the production of tatami, and all Sidea tatami are made with materials compliant with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 REACH, which governs the registration and evaluation of chemical substances used in production processes. This compliance guarantees the highest level of health and environmental protection, ensuring that the materials used are free of prohibited or potentially harmful substances.
The choice not to use chemical plasticizing and stabilizing additives, in addition to the natural characteristics of EVA, may make the tiles slightly more subject to production tolerances and minor modifications due to use. However, this choice is entirely for the benefit of safety, as it contributes to full compliance with the REACH Regulation, ensuring that Sidea tatami are also safe for children and infants, who can use them in complete tranquility for their first motor and exploratory activities.
