SQUARE BALANCE WOODEN BOARD
It is a large, durable, and well finished proprioceptive board. It is part of the so-called unstable bases and wobble boards devoted to exercises of proprioception, coordination, strength, and in particular, ankle rehabilitation.
Dimensions: 500 x 500 mm, height 50 mm
Weight: 3 kg
Square balance wooden boards only move in two directions. Patients and athletes using these boards find rehab more moderate. The Square Balance Wooden Board helps re-training proprioception and the sense of balance following an injury. It is essential when treating ankle sprains. It is also an exceptional aid to posture improvement and core strengthening. It is incredibly beneficial for patients recovering from knee surgery.
It is the proprioceptive boards, or Freeman boards, those that, thanks to a hemisphere in the bottom part board, cause instability. Balance Boards are used both for rehabilitation and prevention, practices aimed primarily at athletes, beginners, or seasoned athletes. How is proprioception stimulated? Meanwhile, it is necessary to remember what is the action of proprioceptors. Proprioceptors are mechanosensory neurons that send messages to the central nervous system and provide feedback information about the motor coordination. Balance Boards are used to recover (or strengthen) the ankle and knee joints, restoring the motor patterns that guarantee a static and dynamic balance. This model of neuromotor stimulation is also fundamental in older adults, who, with the use of the board, can improve many muscular and nervous faculties.
Here are some exercises listed based on the difficulty:
– sitting, one foot on the board to mobilize the ankle (very easy)
– one foot on the floor and one on the board to mobilize the ankle (easy)
– both feet on the board to try to maintain balance (medium)
– one foot on the board (difficult)
– two feet on the board with eyes closed (very difficult)
– as above, with the coach disrupting the stability of the user with small pushes (very difficult)
The difficulty should be measured based on the user and the point they are in their rehabilitation path. In case you are a healthy athlete, you can use the last three recommendations for the improvement of proprioception.
